A Solid Team

Whilst each of Tregloans’ four partners has substantial experience and expertise, it is their collective depth of technical knowledge and the ability to form strong relationships with clients that has driven Tregloans’ long-standing success.

Michael Fairlie

Partner since 2000
“Accounting to me is quite logical”

“There’s a great sense of relief when someone who knows what they are doing says they will solve an issue – and you know it will be done quickly, professionally, will put your mind at ease and save you money in the long run.”

Clients recognise Michael Fairlie has just about seen it all in his more than 30 years in the industry. He knows how businesses work and the rules that apply to them.

Calmly, efficiently and professionally, Michael delivers the advice or solution his clients need.

With 17 years experience in a “Big 4” accounting firm, Michael was attracted to Tregloans in 1998 by the hands-on, real people issues that the firm’s clients had to deal with, and in 2000 he was invited to become a partner.

He has since become the firm’s Managing Partner, mentoring the team and setting the direction of the firm along with his partners.

An enthusiastic sportsman, Michael walks, runs, swims and cycles – but tennis remains his passion and he continues to play competitively. He has also attended the Australian Open on numerous occasions with his wife and three daughters.

Australian Rules Football (actively following the Adelaide Crows and attending home matches) and Cricket are his other great sporting interests, when Michael gets the chance.

Holding a Bachelor of Economics and a Diploma in Accounting from Flinders University, Michael is very well qualified. He is also a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants (ICA), The Taxation Institute, Chartered Secretaries Australia and is a Registered Tax Agent. He was recently recognised by the ICA and the Tax Institute for 25 years membership!

Michael admits he thrives on the outcomes that good accounting practice delivers.

“All my training is about how to help a client run their business efficiently, whether it is in helping them to comply with the tax laws, report, plan or even train their staff. Ultimately, I want our clients to run successful businesses and to offer whatever assistance I can to help them achieve their personal goals,” he says.

“One thing I’m passionate about telling people is there is so much more to what Tregloans does than just prepare financial statements. We are true partners with our clients and are committed to making sure they benefit from our experience and training – and this allows them to get on with what they do best.

”I find the challenges of small businesses and the ever-changing tax laws throw up a range of what clients think of as headaches. I like to think of these situations as opportunities to demonstrate just what Tregloans and I can do.

Simon Tscharke

Partner since Feb 2010
“Solving tax and business issues is a partnership.”

“It is such a relief to have an adviser who sees themselves as part of the team because of the long-term relationships they built up, particularly when they are a true  problem-solver who is willing to help.*”

Simon Tscharke is young, qualified and creative.

As the only “home-grown” partner of Tregloans, Simon Tscharke, who joined the firm as a graduate in 2000 has worked his way through the ranks building strong relationships with his clients – and learning from some of South Australia’s best senior accountants before taking on the responsibility of partnership.

Having been born at Tanunda into one of the Barossa Valley’s original families, tracing their history back to the 1850’s, Simon understands business, its pressures and the challenges. In fact, Simon even aspires to one day return to the Barossa to market a new wine label grown from the family vineyards!

Like many of his generation, 33-year-old Simon has successfully balanced the challenges of family life with his partner and their young son with work and study. He has completed a Bachelor of Commerce (University of Adelaide), a Graduate Diploma in Applied Finance and Investment (Securities Institute, Now FINSIA), a Graduate Diploma (ICAA) and a Master of Taxation Law (University of NSW), making him one of Adelaide’s most highly qualified accountants.

Similar to the other Tregloans partners, Simon likes to keep active outside work, regularly participating in sporting events such as golf competitions and supporting the local football and cricket. He also loves property development, both from a business point of view and for historical conservation of our many great old buildings. However, always business minded, Simon has also identified and invested in commercial property as a priority for his own portfolio.

Professionally, Simon keeps ‘ahead-of-the-curve’ through his membership of the Institute of Chartered Accountants, the Taxation Institute of Australia, FINSIA and through being a Registered Tax Agent.

Simon considers himself very fortunate to have joined Tregloans due to the match between his own areas of interest and the challenges his clients face.

“Whether it is taxation challenges, financial reporting, accounting, superannuation or advising on a business, I find I thrive by getting personally involved with our clients.  Given my background and study, I ‘speak their language’ and understand their problems,” he said.

“Being a partner at Tregloans has exposed me to the science behind valuing businesses, starting them from scratch, mergers and acquisitions, and all the challenges which come in between. The range of our clients, whether property developers, manufacturers, wine industry participants, transport industry members, professionals such as doctors, dentists and lawyers to name just a few, has meant there has been a very exciting spread of individual challenges.

“I really feel Tregloans has become a unique, high service accountancy practice, and it is growing every year. We have the right balance of qualifications, experience and a can-do mentality.

“Going forward, I expect to focus on using my taxation expertise to assist our clients. Similarly, I will use my highly-advanced management accounting and financial reporting skills to help people get the best out of their businesses.

“I believe I can add great value to the expert advice Tregloans offers for start-up businesses. I have personally been involved with three new companies recently and they now all generate annual sales revenue of $20-$50m per annum. We repay our fees many times over by helping clients avoid inadvertent mistakes and by putting them together with the right people, whether financiers or other professional advisers.

“I have a very hands-on, technology focussed approach, which helps me to get the most out of a busy day and means my clients get the most value for money from my time.”
